As millions of people file into Las Vegas each year, one of the biggest tourist attractions continues to be the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign on the south end of the Strip. This landmark, standing at 25 feet tall, has been welcoming visitors to Las Vegas since 1959.
Located just south of the Mandalay Bay Resort, the neon sign is considered by many to be the official southern end of the Las Vegas Strip. Until 2008, the only way to get to the sign was to either park on the side of the road or in a nearby parking lot and walk (or run) across Las Vegas Boulevard without the benefit of a crosswalk or traffic signal. Now a small parking lot exists with 12 parking spots and two larger areas for buses or limousines. Recently, the county authorized funds to add more spaces and there are talks of a walking bridge over the street.
Images of the sign can be found on souvenirs, Nevada license plates, websites and just about anything else that has to do with Las Vegas. On your next trip to Vegas, make sure to stop by this infamous landmark and snap a few photos of your own.
