Damaged Goods, as Obi Tawil, is a well-known character in Miami’s nightlife scene, renowned for his energetic live performances and innovative musical approach. He moves fluidly between genres and locations as one half of the production duo Caligula, which includes speakeasies underground, large South Beach clubs, and downtown dance venues.
2008 saw Obi join the promotional group OVERTHROW as a permanent DJ for the Miami Indie Scene, where she was most known for throwing the weekly party “Black Sunday.” His distinctive take on immersive experiences and party themes attracted notice, making him a local nightlife sensation.
Smirnoff Vodka’s worldwide sponsorship quickly followed, as did residencies at prestigious Miami clubs including Mansion, Louis, Mokai, and Set. Heavyweight performers like Deadmau5, M.I.A., Steve Angello, Steve Aoki, and many more have performed alongside Obi on stage.
2011 saw Obi add producing to his skill set and release successes like “Devastating” and “Giving it Up” alongside Sydney Blu, his co-producer. Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” was one of his remixes that went viral on Beatport and HypeM, among other charts.
In what looks to be a breakthrough year for Damaged Goods, Obi Tawil is well-positioned for more success with releases on Funk Farm and Dim Mak.
