Alvarez vs Khan First Mega Fight at New Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena.
The first boxing card to christen the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will be… Champion vs Champion as Middleweight Champion Canelo Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) will face former Light Welterweight Champion Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KO’s).
The fight will be at a catch-weight of 155lbs, on May 7 in a 12-round bout on HBO Pay Per View. Despite the agreed upon catch weight Alvarez will be making the first defense of his World middleweight championship, he took from Miguel Cotto last November.
Khan’s last fight was in May, when he out-boxed and out-pointed Chris Algieri at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. In accepting a fight with Alvarez, Khan is taking a considerable rise, not only in size and weight but also in class of opponent. Khan is hoping he can use his considerable boxing skills to mimic the game plan Floyd Mayweather used to beat Alvarez when they fought in 2013. Khan will attempt to use his speed and his range and stay on his bicycle for the full 12 rounds, avoiding Alvarez’s considerable power.
