Traveling can be difficult as you adjust to different cultures and customs across the world, especially when it comes to tipping. Who do I tip? How much do I tip? When do I tip? All seem like fairly easy questions to answer but in a city like Las Vegas that is service-based, tipping is a pretty big deal.
From Las Vegas nightlife servers to the taxi drivers servicing the streets, we are here to help you better understand tipping in Vegas.
- Taxi Drivers: Once you have safely arrived at your destination a 10-15% tip off the total fare is standard.
- Bellmen: These are the fantastic people who take your bags to and from your hotel room, saving you from maneuvering your way through the casino with all of your luggage dragging behind you. Typical tip is $1/bag with $2 minimum tip when bags arrive to your room. If you are traveling with a large group or a lot of heavy luggage, a larger tip might be in order. If you would like your bags delivered right away, you may want to tip up front or you may be waiting for them to get to your room.
- Front Desk Clerks: If you are upgraded for free to a better room or given any additional freebies that you did not pay for, a tip is appreciated. We recommend at least $10 for a room upgrade.
- Concierge: A concierge can help you with dinner reservations, show tickets, tours and much more. Anywhere from $2-$20 depending on how much they do and how hard of a reservation it is to get.
- Casino Cocktail Servers: These are the ladies that bring you free drinks while you are gambling. Standard tip is generally $1/drink here (whether booze, coffee, water or anything else). If you plan to stay in one section for a while, ask if she will be serving this area for a while. If yes, tip a few extra dollars to make sure she keeps coming back to you.
- Bartenders: Same as Casino Cocktail servers. If you want faster, better service than tip out a few extra bucks especially to get you started.
- Dealers: On a hot streak? Win big? Don’t forget to take care of the dealer. Even if you didn’t make out so well but sat at the table for a bit, a tip is fairly customary. You can tip in between hands or spins, or you can wait until the end of your session. About $5 an hour is standard or more if you are up big. Some people also like to “place bets” for the dealer so that you are winning together with them.
- Housekeeping: Leaving $1-$2 (more at fancier hotels) a day will go a long way towards getting you better service here along with more towels, shampoos, soaps and other extras. If you are particularly messy (think Hangover) a larger tip should be left along with a small thank you note. Some hotels have an envelope already set out for the maid. If not, leave a small note on a desk or nightstand along with tip.
- Valet Parking: This could be one of the most important, especially if you are driving your own car and not a rental. Tip $2-$3 at drop off and pick up. Don’t be afraid to shell out a bit more if you are driving a fancier car. Want to be right up front for easy access? Tip between $10 to $30 for this depending on how busy it is at the casino.
- Food Servers: Standard tipping for restaurants runs anywhere from 15-20% depending on the quality of service. Many restaurants include gratuity for groups of six or more so check your bill before you write in the tip amount. If you received a complimentary meal (from the casino for example) be sure to tip a minimum of 20% of what the actual bill would be. This also applies to Room Service as well. Drop a few dollars at the buffet as well once you are done with your meal. Those dirty plates don’t disappear on their own.
- Limo Drivers: A good tip here is $10-$20 or more depending on the length of the ride, cleanliness of the limo and the quality of the service.

- Nightclub Security: Security inside the club is there to watch the crowd and keep the environment safe for everyone. Not to be your personal assistant. That being said, they can and will help clear a path for you to get to the bathroom, bring girls (or guys) to your table and kick said girls (and guys) out of your table. If you are asking for assistance from security, $20 is pretty standard for the night. More if you are asking a lot.
